How to keep cool in the heat
Posted on: Wed 24th July, 2019
With temperatures this summer breaking records, it's important to keep cool and hydrated. And this isn't just about comfort: high temperatures can result in serious heat-related illnesses, including heart and breathing problems.
So, what can you do to keep cool? Here are our top tips...
- Avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day (11am til 3pm)
- Wear loose-fitting clothing. Cotton is especially effective at keeping you cool - avoid synthetics!
- It is a lovely time of year to be sat in a pub beer garden, but be aware that alcohol is highly dehydrating. Might we suggest an ice cool water or iced tea instead?
- Take regular cool baths or showersÂ
- Keep rooms cool by using shades or reflective curtains. If this is not possible, use light-coloured curtains (dark curtains can actually make the room hotter).
- Keep your freezer stocked up with bottles of water. Grab one when you head out and you'll have a supply of refreshing ice-cold water.
